Scholarship.

The average GPA for sorority women is 3.08, and the average GPA for fraternity men is 2.90. Overall, members of the Greek community have an average GPA of 3.00. Individual chapters have standards of academics to which members are held accountable, and most have access to scholarships at the national level.

Service.

Each chapter works to raise money or awareness for individual philanthropies, in some cases raising tens of thousands of dollars a year. Additionally, each Greek council has a collective philanthropic organization which chapters support in all-Greek activities.

Greeks are also heavily involved in campus philanthropic organizations, from Spring 500 (cleaning up the local neighborhood) to Dance Marathon and St. Baldrick's.

Above left: ladies from all three sororities participated in Cedar Rapids Dance Marathon, with three Greek women serving on the executive board.

Above right: many members of the Greek community shaved their heads and raised money for cancer awareness through the St. Baldrick's foundation. First-year Alpha Sigma Alpha Kelsey Ehrhardt was instrumental in planning the event.

Leadership.

Greeks serve the Coe community as leaders not just in their chapters, but in additional activities as well.  For example, Anna Barton, our current student body president, is a sister of Delta Delta Delta. Several members of the Greek community serve on the executive board of Cedar Rapids Dance Marathon. And that's only the tip of the iceberg!

Fun!

Greek life offers many fun activities both within chapters and council-wide.

Left: Greek Week involves a bit of friendly competition in events such as window painting, tug-of-war, and the Greek Idol talent show.

Right: members of Panhellenic and Interfraternity executive board get to attend the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values annual conference.
